Tip of the Month
Keep your dog Fit, not Fat
Your dog's weight is one of the easiest thing to control, yet so many pet dogs are obese. Not only does this make your dog unhappy, it can lead to serious health issues, including, but not limited to, Diabetes, Hypertension, Orthopedic Injuries, Osteoarthritis, Respiratory Disorder, Various forms of Cancer, and Cardiac Disease. Overfeeding your dog can also get very expensive (unnecessary extra food and vet bills).
To accomplish a healthy weight, you'll need stop giving them any table scraps and cut down the amount and fat content of the treats they get. Feed them a well-balanced, nutritionally appropriate diet on a schedule (we suggest 1 meal in the morning and 1 meal in the evening). Your dog food will have suggested feeding amounts, and you can let your dog's body guide you: Ribs should be palpable, with minimal fat/no excess fat covering. Waist should be easily noted when viewed from above, and the abdominal tuck should be evident.
You may also want to start your dog on an exercise program. Ask your vet first if they have any existing medical issues. Increase their daily activity level slowly to avoid injuries and soreness. Try to find something you will enjoy doing together so that it becomes part of your life.

We use a balance of Positive Reinforcement and appropriate corrections to achieve any desired behaviors, or discourage any undesired behaviors. We try to make learning fun for the dogs, as well as the humans. Through our training methods and everyday interactions, we teach the dogs to respect us, not fear us.

Jake
Jake Schneider is an obedience trainer, professional handler and an approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for the AKC. He has about 5 years of dog training experience under his mother and mentor, Deb Schneider, and about 4 years of training on his own through AllBreed North and other ventures.
He is very knowledgeable, patient and caring, which contributes greatly to the success of his students. He uses practical approaches, personal experiences, and humor in his classes to create a relaxed and fun learning atmosphere.
Jake grew up always having dogs in the house... his mother has been training dogs almost as long. Throughout his life, he went with her to all sorts of dog-related places; dog shows, flyball competitions, obedience classes, etc. He also helped his dad walk dogs when they had a small boarding kennel.
Jake started handling dogs in the conformation ring as a junior handler when he was 10, and championed his first dog at the age of 13. He learned at an early age to make competing with dogs fun, and continues to do that with his client's dogs, and his own.
Jenny
Jenny Schneider has always been an animal lover, even though she didn't grow up with any pets in the house (except fish). She periodically had the chance to care for others' pets by pet-sitting for neighbors and friends. She also learned a lot through the years of going with Jake to all the places his mother introduced him to. And she gained more experience through raising puppies to be service dogs and by assisting in obedience classes. Now, she has about 3 years of training experience and assists or fills in for Jake periodically, and works with the dogs in our Board & Train Programs.
Before dedicating her full attention to the business, Jenny worked with adults and children with disabilities for more than 4 years. During that time, she learned First Aid, CPR, & AED, was certified in Medication Administration, and learned how to react when someone is having a Seizure. She also learned patience and understanding for people that cannot communicate their needs. She believes this gives her an advantage when it comes to taking care of dogs. Jake and Jenny have also learned Canine First Aid and CPR.
